Back Facial Aftercare: 48-Hour Do's, Don'ts & Tips
By Gliss Aesthetics | September 24, 2026
Quick rule: For the first 48 hours, protect that fresh, clean glow by avoiding heavy sweating, hot showers, swimming, tanning, and scrubs. Keep your back gently clean, moisturized, and friction-free.

I hear it all the time after a session: skin looks glowing and so clean, and people love how calm the space feels. A back facial is meant to feel relaxing, but it also does real work: deep steam cleansing, gentle exfoliation, extractions, a detoxifying mask, massage, and hot towels across your back, elbows, and the back of your upper arms. If you’re in Selma, especially around Central Selma near the downtown commercial district, the heat and dust can undo results fast. The next 48 hours are where you protect what I just did for your skin.
Your first 24 to 48 hours: sweat, heat, and water rules that matter
Right after your back facial, your skin is freshly cleaned out and a little more reactive than usual. That’s why I keep it simple for the first two days.
Do this
- Keep the area clean with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
- Shower with lukewarm water and gently rinse. Pat dry. No scrubbing.
- Moisturize with a non-comedogenic lotion or cream, especially if you’re feeling tight or dry.
- Wear loose, breathable fabric. Cotton is your best friend for these two days.
Skip this for 48 hours
- Intense workouts, saunas, steam rooms, and anything that makes you drip sweat.
- Hot showers and long, steamy baths.
- Swimming (chlorine), lakes, and hot tubs.
- Sunbathing or tanning. If your back is exposed, use SPF.
Central Valley heat is no joke. If you work outdoors, do fieldwork, or you’re commuting off Highway 99, plan for sweat and friction. If you can, schedule your appointment for a cooler evening or weekend so your first 24 hours are easier on your skin.
Days 3 to 7: how to keep your back smooth without triggering new bumps
Once you’re past the first two days, you can settle into a routine that keeps pores clear without irritating your skin. This is the week where people usually notice that “clean” feeling sticking around longer, especially when they follow the simple rules.
Keep cleansing gentle, even if you’re tempted to scrub
I don’t want you going in with a loofah, body brush, or gritty scrub for at least 3 to 7 days. Your skin just had exfoliation and extractions. Scrubbing too soon can kick up irritation and make you feel rough again.
Watch friction points: bras, tight shirts, backpacks, and sports gear
If something rubs, it can spark fresh clogged pores. Give your back a few days of looser tops and bras, and be mindful of backpack straps if you’re running around Central Selma near the downtown commercial district.
Dust plus sweat is a common Selma combo
In the Central Valley, seasonal dust settles on skin fast. If you’ve been outside, rinse sooner rather than later and change out of tight work clothing. It’s a small step that often prevents those little bumps from coming right back.
Product rules after a back facial: moisturizer, SPF, and when to restart actives
After your back facial, I want your product routine to be boring for a few days. Gentle wins here.
My go-to plan: mild cleanser + non-comedogenic moisturizer for 3 to 7 days. If your back will be exposed, add SPF. Hold off on strong acids and retinoids until your skin feels calm again.
Avoid alpha and beta acids (like glycolic and salicylic) and retinoids on the treated area for 3 to 7 days. If you’re dealing with a stubborn spot, don’t blast your whole back with acne actives right away. Let us know what you’re using and what your skin usually does, and I’ll tell you the safest way to bring it back in.
And yes, facial products and techniques often show up in back care too. A back facial mimics classic facials in a lot of ways, including the “mask moment.” If you’re already reading about our facials in Central Selma, you’ll notice the same idea: calm the skin first, then get more active.
When to reach out to me (and when it’s just normal post-facial skin)
"I have been to Tasha’s several times now and she is always very attentive to my skin needs. I love how she lets me know step by step the types of the products she is using."
One of our regulars
A little pinkness, mild tenderness around extraction areas, or a slightly dry feeling can happen. That usually settles as long as you avoid heat, sweat, and friction.
Reach out if you notice increasing redness, swelling, pus, fever, or severe pain. I’d rather you ask early than sit there wondering if it’s normal.
If you’re coming in from Fowler, Kingsburg, Reedley, Parlier, or Sanger, I’ll also help you plan aftercare around the drive and your schedule, especially if you’re hopping back on Highway 99 in the heat. When you’re ready for your next reset, my back facial is 60 minutes and $100. You can also pair your visit with a stop at Selma Marketplace or plan it after a downtown shift in Central Selma to keep the day simple.
Need quick guidance? Call or text and tell me what you’re seeing on your skin, plus what you used at home. I’ll point you in the right direction.

Back facial aftercare FAQs I get weekly in Selma
Can I shower after a back facial?
Yes. Keep it lukewarm, use a gentle fragrance-free cleanser, and let the water run over your back. Pat dry. Skip hot water and scrubbing for at least the first 48 hours.
How long should I wait to exercise after a back facial?
I recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours before intense workouts. Sweat and heat can irritate freshly treated skin and can push bacteria back into pores.
When can I wear a tight shirt or bra after my back facial?
Give it at least 48 hours, longer if you’re still a bit tender. Friction is a big trigger for back breakouts, especially right after extractions.
Will a back facial permanently get rid of bacne?
A back facial can make a big difference in congestion and how smooth your skin feels, but “permanent” isn’t realistic for most people. Sweat, hormones, friction, and products all play a role. Consistent treatments plus the right home care usually get the best long-term improvement.
What products can I safely use on my back after a back facial?
Stick to a mild cleanser and a non-comedogenic moisturizer for 3 to 7 days. If your back is exposed outdoors, add SPF. Hold off on acids and retinoids until the skin is calm.
Do I need a facial mask after a back facial?
Not usually in the first few days. Your back facial already included a detoxifying mask, so the priority afterward is keeping skin calm and hydrated. If you want to add a mask later, keep it gentle and avoid anything that tingles or feels stripping.
What’s the best facial for back breakouts?
For back breakouts, I usually start with a back facial that includes steam cleansing, gentle exfoliation, extractions when appropriate, and a detoxifying mask. The “best” option depends on how inflamed and sensitive your skin is and how much friction and sweat you deal with day to day.
Are classic facials and back facials similar?
Yes. A back facial mimics many classic facial techniques, just on the back. You’ll still see deep cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, a mask, and massage. The difference is we also plan around clothing friction, sweat, and hard-to-reach aftercare.
Is facial massage part of a back facial?
Facial massage is specific to face treatments, but your back facial includes massage on the treated area to help you relax and to support that fresh, refreshed feel after cleansing and masking.
